For a bookhound, I shudder to think of the possibilities.

Brilliant piece. Elder's desk as "cultural sediment" really captures how these spaces work. I've noticed similar things in the few independent bookstores left near me - they accumulate history physically, not just sell it. The Fugitives having to scatter geographically to build influence elsewhere is such an ironic pattern for regional intelectual movements.

Thank you for reading and for your kind and thoughtful words. On the scattering, I see it as another "A prophet is not without honor" situation.

Very well done, as always, Chase. I’ll have to let you know next time I’m near Nashville. I’d love to see this place.

Thank you. It's a dangerous place.
