As an American Studies major (UNC-CH,1971-75), your review gives me nostalgia for a time when the study of history was not a personal expression of ideological preference. Fifty years ago the scope of historical study was broad and expansive. Today, more like history as validation of a personal memoir. My own interest is the premodern South and the West of the time of Lewis & Clark. I have found Bernard Devoto, Gary Moulton, and Stephen Ambrose works of great value. Thank you for reminding of me these great historians.
This is absolutely brilliant. Thank you!!!!
Another labor of love. Just brilliant.
